Default Tire size question/Suggestions..

Greets! New to the forum, and new owner of a 2000 xj sport. I've been searching for wheels (and tires) to replace the stock steel rims. I'd like to keep a semi-stock stance, as this is my daily driver, but add a modest lift (1"-2" leveled) and 30" tires. I've found a set of 15" rubicon-style rims (Mamba) that I'm leaning towards. I'd like to find a set of 30" tires to fit such a rim that are comfortable on the road (and decent on fuel economy), but still aggressive in the muck. My question is..What size of tire would that be, and does such a thing exist?.. Any advice or suggestions are welcome man! Thanks in advance.

One thing to keep in mind, taller tires reduce performance, including mpg. It's like riding a 10 speed bike.....easier to start of in 1st gear, harder (more work/effort) to start in 5th gear. To the XJ, it's easier for the power train to turn stock height tires (ie, 1st gear) than it is to turn tall(er) tires (ie, 5th gear).

235/70/15 tire is 28" tall
235 X .70 X 2 / 25.4 + 15 = 27.95"
235 / 25.4 = 9.25" wide

30/9.50/15 tire is 30" tall, 9.5" wide and fits on a 15" rim.

REALLY nice looking XJ.

First of all, Thank you for the response!..I appreciate it man! yeah, I'm really sort of trying to keep it stock with modern updates..not trying turn it into a rock crawler or anything. I moved back to KS from CO, and have wanted an xj since. finally got one. I've only upgraded the lights so far (Rampage halogens, clear bumper lenses with amber bulbs, black euro tail lights) and have fixed and replaced minor things about it.. I love driving it, and having it as a project.

My tires are actually pretty new anyway, just wanted to toughen up the stance a bit. still considering a moderate lift but I'm ok with her either way.

Thank you for the input man!

A 1.5-2" lift on 30x9.5 tires would look very good, especially if you got after market wheels that poked more. The negative performance would be negligible with that setup. As far as tires, BFG all terrains are probably the best daily driver tire you could ask for, IMO. Great in rain and snow, and just about every other terrain.
