Tire size before a regear
Want to get some technical opinons on how big a tire I can put on my 93 XJ before I need to regear. It is somewhat of a daily driver, so it needs" to run nice. I have both a 3.5" and a 4.5" lift kit sitting in my garage, so I can configure it to my needs. The local 4x4 shop only seems to want to sell me what they have in over stock. Looking for some info.........plz.
well im runnin a 4.5 inch lift with 33x10.50x15 mud tires and its my DD. im not gonna lie it lost noticeable power but not drasticly. it still drives good and everything. if i had the money i would regear but i dont im a poor college student haha. ide say the absolute biggest to go wothout regearing is what im rummin. I also have a chrysler 8.25 rear axle which is stronger than the dana 35. anyway if you put the 3.5 on ide run 32's. with the 4.5 you can run 32's or 33'. ide go 33's but thats just me. like i said if you got the money regear but its not absolutely necessary that you do. hope that kinda answers your question
I run 31s on a 3 inch lift and you dont really notice them that much unless your on big hills i would say that 33s would be the absolute most you could go but gears are recomended i personally wouldnt go over 32s but thats just me i drive mine everyday to

33's are probably the max tire size you'll want to go before re-gearing. I will be running the same setup, 4.5" lift and 33's also. I'm a college student too so money is low, as it is my DD I will probably re-gear but don't have the money.

You can definitely "live" with 33s and stock gears. A lot of guys do just fine. Especially if you have the 4.0, automatic and 3.55 gears. If it's going to be a DD which I'm assuming you will commute and drive on the highway a lot, I would recommand a re-gear to at least 4.10 with any tire larger than a 30" for best trade off between performance and fuel economy.
I'm running 32x11.5's on a RE 3.5" Super Flex Kit.
My fenders are cut and rolled and these tires rub like no other. I'm installing shackles and coil spacer today to get a little more clearence. Bump stop extensions may also be in order.
My point is... Don't go too big with the tires.

Hi,
Post-jacking but similar idea...
I have a 2.5Lt 99'XJ and thinking of installing a RE3.5" lift as well. The max tire I would install is a 29" or 30". Without re-gearing how much would I expect it to loose in power? Anyone got experience? Should I stick with 235/75/15 instead, but how would it look like?
(Please don't tell me to get a 4Lt one, this is Greece, if I could, I would...)
Thanks....
