Default Tire Size

Apologies if I'm breaking any rules.
And please excuse my lack of understanding.

As of now my tires are all mix n matched but the same size. This has caused some scary skids and spins on turns as traction is lost.

I am stock running 235x75 r15 (which i believe are also stock). My question is what is the biggest tire size I can fit without rub or making modifications?

A 235/75-15 would be the largest with out any modifications. and no rub. You may be able to get a 30x9.50-15 if you have no sag in the suspension.

I do need to replace my rear leafs. Is 30x9.5 -15 stock wrangler height just with a 15" rim instead of 17"?

No a 30" is just a hair bigger than a 235. It's on a 15" rim, not a 17. That's what the R15 means on the tire.

It depends on what year the wrangles is. I have seen many in different years with different size stock tires.
BTW, You are not running a stock size if you have the 235x75-15 You are running slightly larger. There are 2 different stock sizes that they put on the XJ. One is 215x75-15 and the other is 225x75-15

Thanks guys.

94, I know its on a 17 its why I asked if only the rim size was different.

JK tires and wheels around here are plentiful. It would be cheaper for me to pick up a set of them rather than buy new ones.

I just drove to the store for my brother and had a few more slides. I have probably 100lbs of stuff in the back.

JK (along with most modern jeep) wheels are likely a different bolt pattern than the XJ and wont fit without an adapter.

Yeah! The Xj has a bolt pattern of 5x4.5 I think the JK bolt pattern is 5x5 so the wheels won't fit. But if you find a 17 wheel with 235x75-15 and a bolt pattern of 5x4.5 the will work.

Thanks again guys!
I understand the bolt pattern and the difference.

So if i were to pick up a pair of stock wrangler wheels I would have to get an adapter.

I think I might end up doing that because i like wider wheels for the more aggressive stance that it gives the vehicle.

Also, happy thanksgiving!

any wrangler wheel from 87-06 will fit. 07+ will not fit. and i may be wrong but i believe grand cherokees also had 5x4.5 until 98 or 99. IMO 17 in wheels would look weird on a xj. mine came stock with 16's and they are borderline for me. jeeps weren't meant to have low profile tires...they should beefy tires with plenty of sidewall. but just my opinion. if you like 17's more power to ya

Thanks guys!

I don't necessarily want 17" but the stock JK wheels/ tires here are relatively cheap so I was wondering.

I feel like I might be able to fit a 30 with no problems, I'll just have to wait to find some.

Again, thanks guys and hope you all had great Thanksgiving's!

Just for reference; 235/75-15 is approximately 9.5" wide and 29" tall, so don't spend gobs more money for a 30" tire if you don't have too.
