Hey Guys!
Getting ready to put some new tires the rig. I like the BFG A/T but for 700 out the door id have to break the bank.
I'm thinking maybe the Kumho A/T Going with 225 75/15
got them here for 98 each

Heres my question:
Do you guys prefer getting your tires online then having a shop mount them?

Thats a small tire for a cherokee, I would at least go to a 235. And there migth be cheaper prices on line, but theres a reason for that. Most shops will charge more for install on a tire not bought from them. And the horrors I seen with tire rack.
They wont warrenty the tires, they tell you to go to xxx shop to get them warrenty, well that shop will then take the hit, even though they never made a profit to begin with on the tires. So they dont want to warrenty them either.... So you are stuck...
Had a friend at work order 4 studded 33 1250 for his full size blazer from tire rack, 2 days after running them, most the studs on the front and rear fell out (tire rack used wrong size) They wanted him to pay 120 for shipping back to them, for them to restud. Totally bogus.

Treadepot is my go to place. For bigger tires (more expensive) I usually split it between two paychecks. 2 tires at a time. 50 bucks for 2 that shipping is reasonable. 31x10.50 Kelly safari TSRs are 140 a piece plus 25 a tire. I can find it cheaper than that.

I personally have a very trusted shop here that I go to for tires, oil changes (I can do it myself, but 25 bucks I figured why not help a local business), and anything I can't do to my Jeep myself (clock spring, rim/tire mounting, ect ect. If you can look around your city and find a reputable tire/general maintenance shop I would go there. Online you can't see the actual tirem or anything like that. Just my opinion

Pepboys tire "services" are out rageous... But their tire prices rock..I got quoted 520 for 4 Cooper all terrains with 50k warranty..the advertisent on tv for buy 3 get one free is a joke...you have to have them mount and balance them to get the last one free...which would be 730 with a 100 dollar mail in rebate. I'm buying the tires there and taking them to my local shop for the 40 dollar mount and balance. Online always has good prices but sometimes shipping can be a deal breaker

I price tires online and then call all the local shops and ask them if they will give me that price. Of course, I realize mounting/balancing is extra, so I give them a $15 per tire cushion. I much perfer to buy local because they will help if there's any issues. I also like buying a road hazard warranty on expensive tires....they tend to easily pay for themselves with tires that cost $150-200+ each.

My local garage can match or beat Tire Rack and I don't have to pay shipping. The last 2 sets I bought from him easily beat Tire Rack's price and they were mounted, balanced, and installed on my vehicles.
working in a shop that does tires i would only trust going to a local shop for tires there is one big thing to know when buying tires from online or from your big shops like sears walmart or sams club they buy so many tires at one time that the tire companys give them good deals on bulk orders by cutting the rubber used in the tires what that means is you can go to your local tire shop and get a bfg at with 12/32 tread and go to sams walmart or sears or tirerack and get the same tire with 10 or less /32 tread..

It wont let me cut and paste cost from the Tire Whs I deal with so;
KHM KL78 AT $96.00
You will need to add $35.00 for markup and install to come up with a retail price. I would sell these tires all day long for 131.00 each installed, and be competitive with the other Tire shops around Raleigh.
I have been in and out of tire sales all my life. You will always get a little better price on line, what happens afterwards is what you need to worry about. In this case you are saving $10 to $15 per tire. If there tire is bad (slim chance) you have just lost your rearend! If you lean on any independent shop, they will take $25.00 per tire markup instead of the $35. So now you are down to $5 per tire over mail order. Thats the math.
I once had a Boss who would drive 100 miles in a Big Block Chevy pick up truck, to save $20.00 on a pair of shoes. (The previous statment is a reminder)
