Time to upgrade front axle

Ok My D35 is on it's last leg. From what I've been reading a D30 from a Grand Cherokee would be a good upgrade because they have beefy U-joints and such. But one thing I couldint seem to find is what year would be the best and have a high pinion.

RENIXBEAST 05-03-2010 05:19 PM

Cherokee's 96+ as long as its high pinion it should have the larger u-joints on the axle shafts. Not sure on the grands though.

you wanna replace a d35 with a d30? that makes no sense becaus ethe 35 is a rear axle and the 30 is a front

JeepingDan 05-03-2010 05:39 PM

So your saying this other xj guy I know is full of ****? The front axle I have now is a vac disco on a 88

the only front axle that came in an xj was a dana 30.

RoyalXJ 05-03-2010 05:43 PM

front dana 35s came in rangers but they were twin i beam not solid axles

RoyalXJ 05-03-2010 05:46 PM

most grands had cv style axles in the front

yea, 35 front doesnt make sense.....

JeepingDan 05-03-2010 05:53 PM

ok ok What would be a good upgrade for running 36's?

XJSETH 05-03-2010 05:54 PM

no you have a vacuum disconnect dana 30, not a dana 35. done deal. if you swap in a high pinion dana 30 non disco your golden as long as your gears match front and rear. :)

dana 44 im sure is what most people will say. i can agree. but i run 35s and a hp dana 30 and im fine.

JeepingDan 05-03-2010 06:01 PM

So basically the 94 donor I have with the non disco should be good. That would be sweet cuz then I don't have to buy one. except the gears because I have 3.73 right now but I think it might not go well with 36's

Karmashwarma 05-03-2010 06:17 PM

so you plan on running 36's on a dana 30 and a ? What do you have in the back? if its the stock 35 your going to break it.

JeepingDan 05-03-2010 06:22 PM

ok my donor is a 94 with a auto and the rear dosint look the same as my 88 maybe I'll use that once I find out what it is. I'm not a differential expert. But What if build trusses on the top tubes That should beef em up a lot.
