Do the hot oil flush, stopped it on one, quieted it on the other.

They hook up something I call a hot oil machine for about an hour, its runs hot hot oil through your system and out the pan. In cleans everything. This place, Vernon Crossings Auto garage does it. My boss wants to start doing it as well.

This I have never heard of. Isn't this what's happening all the time the engine is running...hot oil circulating through every nook & cranny?

I have heard of guys putting Seafoam in the crankcase and running a couple hundred miles then draining it and heard positive things...but that stuff is some kind of petrochemical solvent. I've always been skeptical but willing to listen but the hot oil thing makes no sense to me unless it is some kind of solvent. Even then, I'd want to make sure fresh oil was circulated before the next engine start.

It has more than hot oil. And no, Oil is not constantly circulated through everything. This machine pumps it in at a rediculously high degree and its left on for an hour or two. I checked out my valves afterwards and they were as clean as the the it came of the production line.

Hey y'all. I'm havin the same troubles with my 96. Gonna tear into it tomorrow. After taking the valve cover off and checking everything looked fine up there. Took a mechanics stethascope around the top n bottom end. Knocks like the police in the oilpan! Maybe i'll find out what my "Jeep noise" is tomorrow and pass it along...

Hot oil the valvetrain enama .Seafoam will do it ,atf , kerosoene, all this stuff will do it pretty close to the same as the valvetrain enama, not as well but alot cheaper.As far as getting rid of the valvetrain noise yes you could be lucky and just have a bled down lifter and the oil flow most likly just pumped it back up, other than that none of it is more than a cleaner for the inside of your motor.It wont get rid of real valvetrain noise.

turns out it is the crank rod bearing...took it to a shop and they figured it out. Said they took some oil, put inbetween two pieces of glass, held it up to the light and saw metal shards. Not good.

Dont know exactly what I'm going to do, the shop said they could get a new long block or something like that....replace the thing for 1700-1800 parts and labor.

Craigslist...buy motor for $300-$500. Sometimes you can hear them run before they're pulled but I've seen many with full accessories attached...even a transmission once in a while.

I thought you said it was coming from the top of the motor?

dont mean to hijack but mine ticks but it just started and the oil pressure guage use to stick like glue to the middle of the guage now it reads zero any ideas

The oil pressure gauge should move around based on engine RPM. Sounds like your sender is bad.

somebody else told me maybe the pump is grinding and not even pumping oil is that possible

I have a 4.0, same prob. 250k, 94 Cherekee. I took the valve cover off and loosed the rocker arms while it was still running because I am loco. It seems to have died down a good deal. Any advice? (reading this thread was an emotional roller coaster, from no problem to pistons breakage, to replacing an engine?)
