Unhappy tick tick ticking

how loud can a lifter get. so at first i thogh it was a lifter. but now its really loud. when i drive by a building i can here the tick reflect off of it. when the engine is up to temp its quiet but when i accelerate it comes back and its loud. some one told me it could be an exhaust manifold. could it?

Do you have access to a stethescope? See picture. You could borrow or buy one and listen to various parts on the engine when you start it. It is most likely an exhaust manifold leak from the sounds of it. Google using the Stethescope and you will find lots of info on how to use it. Quite a helpful instrument! Not too expensive at Sears.

the exhaust manifolds are known to crack and they make a bad ticking noise... it did it so much that jeep changed the part and made a new one with flex pipe in it.. thats what my guess would be
