Default Throttle body question?

Could someone please tell me what the other cable controls on the throttle body. I know that one controls the throttle but what does the other control. I know that sounds like a dumb question but I am really new to car repair and I am trying to learn. The reason I am asking is because the plastic piece that connects the two is broken and now the unknown cable is just lying there. Where can I get a replacement and what is it called? .......Second question.....What is the big canister that is located behind ( and slightly to the left) the oil filter and up against the firewall on the passenger side? It has a cap on it that contains a rubber diaphram and a spring. The cap came off and I cant get it back on. Actually it didnt come off I just noticed it was sitting there loose. Thanks for helping a true newbie, its appreciated!

Oh...I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Limited. 4.0 I6

Are you talking about the thing circled in red? I believe that's the kickdown cable for the transmission.

The canister you are talking about sounds like the EVAP/charcoal canister.

As far as replacement...just go to a junkyard, or a local pick n pull. I've never seen a 4.0 at one that didn't have that available for the taking.

Thanks to the both of you. It is what you have circled in red. The piece that broke is the black plastic at the very bottom of your red circle. Is there a way to fix just that piece, or do you just buy a new cable? The question on the cannister....how does that cap and spring go back on? Once again thanks for the help!

To do it "Right" you should get a new one or one from a JY. You can try rigging it and then adjust with the link I posted...Tj
