Cleaning the TB and the IAC isn't a bad idea, but if he can 'idle fine in neutral all day' doesn't sound like that's it.

Tps. No. Iac. No....starter issue?. Or other sensors...the symptoms don't add up. A bad tps or iac would act up in any gear.

The only way to know for sure is to hook it up to an OBDII reader which most parts stores will do for free and/or get a multimeter and test resistance/ohms at each sensor. I still think you should give it a tune up though
I've ran codes comes back clean. Even took it to a friend who specializes in cherokees. He can't figure it out either.

Other than testing sensors, check for vacuum leaks and look for bad grounds. The grounding strap near the back of the valve cover attached to the firewall and the one on the passengers side of the block about 1/2 down the oil dipstick are the two to start with.

The starter is engaging and the motor is rolling over...it's firing as well.

The only thing that was leaking was the intake gasket. i checked the fire wall ground but not the other. I will try that in the morning.

What is it like when you accelerate from a stop? Smooth or shakey and won't upshift?
