His throttle body sounds like its pulling in too much air.
When he presses the throttle it sound like its sucking in to much air(if possible) and it sounds like its gonna stall out then kicks back up RPMs. Its a 1989 cherokee chief.

If it sounds like too much air I'd think of it as not enough fuel...or improper combustion.

Start with the easy basics, fuel filter & pressure check, tb cleanliness and ignition system condition (plugs, distributor cap, rotor button, wires ect..) also a seafoam treatment usually seems to work wonders as far as cleaning goes.

Check the simple basics then check back lol.

 

Those big filters like that are really really loud to.start with and is that the only thing done to it? Ie no performance exhaust or injectors or anything? How does it idle? Smooth? TB clean? Sensors clean?

 

ditto big air filter if it aint broke dont fix it

 

Bigger filters will cause some new noise yes, but no stumble and catch up of rpms, unless I'm just reading the op wrong.

 

might need to clean the iac maybe might be getting a little gummy ?

 

He said it sounds like its sucking too much air. And those darn things sound like a 747 taking off under the hood. And the drop in rpms out of the blue sounds like dirty sensor or dirty tb to me. If it started when you put on the hot air intake than ditch it!

 

Well he just cleaned the tb so it looks brand new...i'll have him check the rest out next time i see him.
