so i want to get a jeep comanchee pickup.
can anybody tell me what their like, or how different they are from the cherokee's?
is the suspension the same, frame, motor, tranny, all that stuff. do they have the same axles?
if i get a 88 just like my jeep is it going to be a renix system to?

They are great little trucks, I love my old one. From the front door forward, all cherokee. From the cab back it turns into a frame with a pickup bed just like any other small truck, so the rear suspension is different.
They really like to rust in the bedside, especially just above the wheel opening. Drivetrain and axle wise, all cherokee, rear driveshaft is obviously longer. Rear spring is spring under, unlike cherokee spring over design, so you can get 4+ inches of lift just by going spring over. They came with either a short bed- 6ft long or long bed- 7ft long if I remember correctly. I think that covers the basics, pretty much an XJ with a frame and bed in the rear.

Here is my old comanche, lifted 4.5 on 33's, the rear is just spring over, when I bought it the rockers and bedsides were smoked, so they had to go. From the comanches I have seen, there are two types, surface rust and holy rust! But as you can see, cherokee doors, front end, dash, engine compartment, everything is cherokee.

Stock tailgate, and the inside of the bed is also all stock. I never was happy with the taillights, but I sold it long before I decided to change it. I had to keep the tailgate for the Jeep logo alone. The truck ended up being like 50% new steel when it was done, a bunch of rust, but it was bought for $500 so eh.

some key points were missed. The frame widens after the cab. The cab has a cab support which is cool except if you go to use just about any aftermarket long arm kit.
The spring perches are 5/8 of an inch wider then an xj's on each side. All of them have a foot e-brake instead of a hand e-brake. They also have a height sensing valve on the rear for brake biasing... Best to just pull that and replace it with an XJ prop valve and loose on of the rear brake lines. The is some aftermarket support for them now as far as body armor... but expect to pay good money for stuff or build it yourself.
I have been wheeling MJ's since 2004... Look at my Webshots page to get ideas.
Keep in mind if you go wheeling/camping ppl are going to expect you to cary off the trash

They are renix era 4.0's. Expect to get low 20's with sensible driving with the 4.0, and high teens/low 20's with the 2.5 again with sensible driving.
