Default things to fix

I've always heard the term don't fix what's not broken and I've stood buy it. But my jeep is a bit old (91) and the only things I've done are replace what's broken at the current time and regular tune ups. What are some things that are good to replace that may have been over looked?

The main things are routine maintenance items that many people neglect: keeping all of the fluids changed, and flushing the cooling system (also a good time to replace the thermostat). Clean all the grounds, battery cable ends, etc. Clean the IAC and throttle body.

What would you clean on it? The spring and the nipple (?) I don't know the name of the end piece. And just a wipe down and wd40?

I'm pretty sure you are not talking about routine maintenance.

I have a '93 2wd and this is what I have changed out in the past several years:

All braking components at the wheel including soft lines. Have not changed master cylinder or booster.

All steering and suspension components except springs, track bar and unit bearings.

All cooling components including the radiator. I was having a slight overheating problem otherwise wouldn't necessarily swap out the radiator.

O2 sensor. I guess this might be considered a routine maintenance item but one that is often overlooked.

I did this pretty much in groups and cost is not excessive.

Sounds as if you're in the same boat I'm in....The only time I upgrade is when something breaks. But once my list got smaller I added the putco headlight harness.(best $40 spent) I got a cb and what not. What are your plans for your XJ? Tired of using that same factory stereo that only picks up AM? (Mine) swap it! Some of the things that (practical) people overlook is creature comforts....but unfortunately your XJ may have other plans. Best of luck and happy trails.

There have been things that I thought was wrong that I replaced but didn't solve anything. You wouldn't believe what I went through just to find out the ticking I hear is a cracked weld in the exhaust manifold. So instead I ordered aluminized headers. Other things I've done have been a high flow cat, thrush muffler, k&n filter, starter, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, radiator, thermostat, thermostat housing, new shocks springs and leaf springs all around, ball joints, motor mounts, axle shaft and the bearing, and a lot of other things I can't think of at the moment. Before I bought this jeep 4 years ago I didn't know anything about cars. Now because of it I'm an amateur mechanic lol
