Ok I have just got my mothers old jeep. Its a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic. Its been in the family and used by us mostly its entire life. I think my mother leased it, then bought it after the lease was up. They my step dad drove it, then my mom again and now me. So its not had any major work on it that I know of such as accidents.

I got the oil changed today since my mother did not recall exactly when she last got it changed. And I seem to be the only one in the family that use the little stickers they give you for the windows to remind you when to go in next. Anyway they listed everything as very good but noted 2 items and I wanted to check if they were costly and are must fixes.

1. Seepage from the Rear Differential (no idea what that means)
2. Small oil leak from the pan cover.

 

Minor and normal. If the seeping turns into anything larger you might consider replacing seals and/or gaskets as necessary...but that could be a decade from now.

One thing you should know about those years...do NOT let the engine overheat. Some had weak head castings that can crack. A little more vigilance than normal with cooling system maintenance is a good plan.
