Default these headlights are killin me.

Over the summer I had problems with the headlights. It was the wiring harness under the air filter. I removed the harness and spiced the wire together. The short in the wireing harness shorted the headlight swich. I replaced that. The wiring harnss to the headlight switch melted some from the short under the air fliter. I cleaned that all out so there was good contact.
And all has been well until today. My head lights went blank just like they did in the begining of all that over the summer.
So today i rechecked fuses the spiced wires the harness to the switch. all that looks good.
I want to test the head light switch but im not sure how to.
And id like to test the volts from the harness to the switch but im not sure what contact does what.
So any help would be great. I diagram for the wiring would be awesome. My books dont really have anything on the wiring for the switch.
