A friend is willing to sell me a cheap set of 4.10 gears out of his 27 spline 8.25, though the problem is is that my diff is a 29 spline, just wondering if they are compatible, since I think the only difference was the axle shaft size, correct? Just wondering, thanks.

So potentially I could buy them, and put them on without any extra parts then? Its just a ring and pinion gears set. Sorry if I seem uneducated, im not too familiar with advanced differential work.

they might not work at all , and i found out the hard way , depending what your stock gearing is . if you have 3:55 like most , they probly wont work with out getting a new carrier , theres a dividing point in gears usually 3:73 where if you jump to a taller gear you need a carrier made for those gears , the reason is ..... the pinion is smaller and theres not enough room to properly shim the carrier over to get proper mesh , the new carrier made for taller gears has the part where the ring gear bolts too is shifted over to compensate for the smaller pinion , so im gonna say your gonna need a new carrier wich should run around 80 bucks , i put detroits in mine that were set up for the taller gears

yep, the gears will work, just need a 29 spline carrier that will accept those gears.
If you wanted to use just the gears and the carrier break was right you could use it. I would call around and find out how much the right carrier and spider gears are. You will not be able to use the spider gears either.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. There is only a carrier break in the D30, not the 8.25. When I did all my research for changing gears and installing lockers, I only came accross needing a new carrier for the D30. 3:55 and down/3:73 and up (numerically).
