I got my trim off on both sides of the XJ and used the eraser wheel to remove the residue on the paint. But, I am having a hell of a time getting it off the actual plastic trim... the wheel won't do any good because it will melt the plastic. Goo Gone has been soaking on it overnight but still doesn't want to budge, and goof off will probably damage the plastic also.... any other suggestions before I just end up leaving it off?

I used my eraser wheel to get the double sided tape of the trim. Just go easy. Worked fine. Since then I have used this on the recommendation of a fellow forum member. Stuff is great. There is nothing to date that I have not be able to clean with it. 3M 08984.

A few suggestions, in no particular order:

  1. Test the Goof-Off carefully on a tiny spot. A Q-Tip would be good for that.
  2. Try a hair dryer. Heat makes most adhesive softer.
  3. Try Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover
  4. Try kerosene.
  5. Try diesel.

i took trim off of my ‘95 Country.
A few things which I used that worked were
Aircraft Decal Remover spray
a heat gun

it takes a steady hand to operate....

I had a plastic scraper for vinyl removal ,or a credit card ,too.

Thanks...

So far I decided to leave it off after doing a wash/wax today and seeing how it all came out... I wasn’t sure I’d like it without the trim but I think it’s going to grow on me. Seems a
lot of people tear it off and not put it back on, huh?
