A couple of weeks ago my instrument cluster just dropped out, check engine light came on and “no bus” appeared. My 1999 Cherokee XJ kept running just fine though.
I got home started checking the forums. Found a suggestion to change out the CPS. An educated shot in the dark. But the old girl has almost 230k on her odometer. So I went ahead and picked one up.
Yesterday I installed it. I also changed my ATF & filter while I was under there. On my test drive the cluster came alive for about 2 miles then it dropped out, came on again then dropped out again.
I got back to the house. Disconnected the battery, and let it sit for about 20 minutes. It seems resetting their ECU did the trick! The cluster has remain working ever since I’ve driven in about 20 miles in order to test the cluster and of course my ATF And filter change.
I went back and tried to find the post and who it was that suggested changing the CPS. But I was unsuccessful, so here’s a blanket thank you.🍻
