temp sending unit location
my 96 4.0 is listed in the repair manual as having the location at rear of the head. The gauges wire lead is there but there is no hole for it to mount.Does this mean the head has been changed? Please help, I have replaced heater core, radiator, thermostat, water pump, and lower radiator hose, but cannot watch the engines progress.

it should be at the right side rear of the head...on my 88'it is basically a brass stud that sticks up (sending unit screwed into head) and the wire lead pushes onto the threads.

yes the wire lead is there (rear of head) but no hole for the unit to go into.I saw a post today that said to mount it into the thermostat housing, but with my luck cutting wires to reach the front of the engine will lead to disaster.

yeah there is a flat circle there and the gauge lead is just dangling above it like it just disappeared.my service dept. friend at the local chrysler jeep dealership, who has helped me tremendously throughout the last couple of years (on different vehicles) thinks the head may have been changed at some point .
