The title about says it all. When I start my 1991 XJ 4.0 the temp gauge goes all the way to the right. As soon as I let off the key, it goes back to the left and works normally. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks.

It's designed that way. When the igniton switch is turned to "start", terminal G1 on the switch (to which the sending unit is connected) is grounded, which causes the gauge to peg on the hot side. Same thing would happen if you were to test for a bad gauge or sender by grounding the wire to the sender. It gives you a visual check that the gauge is working each time you start, kind of like all the idiot lights coming on when you first turn the key on prior to starting.
