Default Temp Gauge Normal? (PIC INSIDE)

Just replaced my thermostat housing, thermostat (195 degree) and water pump...temp gauge goes up the temp in the pic...then the electric fan kicks on and its drops back down to around 210...seems to be working fine, but just wanted some confirmation

will burp the system again tomorrow...see if there's any more hidden air bubbles.

Mine gets that hot too sometimes. If I drive it long periods. You can "jump" your electric fan relay to always be on. I do on my 90 and it helps. I'm converting to an open system soon though

That is definately hot.

Throw a 180 t-stat in, flush the entire cooling system, make sure your fans are running. And maybe consider doing some vents.

And EVERY car no matter what style of cooling system, needs burped. Some will burp themselves, but you should still do it.

Yeah it really helps on the trails when you aren't forcing air in constantly. I want to get those 3 electric fan set up. I've heard good things.

Stock thermostat is what is needed. Engine is designed to run at a certain temp. Plus with a thermostat that low it is going to be in the open position all the time and may actually cause over heating down the road due to the coolant flowing un-restricted.

Ya know guys, these aren't the most accurate guages the oem ever gave us. On top of that sludge and wear in the sending unit from heat make a difference. I would question the accuracy of the guage/sender in your situation. Anyhow cooler thermostats aren't the answer. A 180* is fully open only a couple degrees cooler then a 195*. It will start.the cooling process a little earlier but by rights will not really affect the overall temp, if it does there was probably a flaw in the previous thermostat. If you flush your system and het the sludge out and your radiator is in good shape you won't overheat (unless you have other mechanical issues). My 21 year old renix with a closed system has no problem staying cool. It heats up a little at low speed but on the occasion that it gets hot the aux fan brings it right back down. It stays around 205-210 with a 195* radiator in normal driving. That is right where it was intended to run.
