Hey All, I'm looking for some help on my Temperature Gauge on my 96. It has a 97 motor in it so there is no provision in the block for the Temp Gauge sensor.
As soon as I turn the key on the temp maxes out. I've tried grounding out the wire and it maxes out the gauge. Removing the short and the gauge drops to zero again.
I've installed a brass "TEE" in the thermostat housing and extended the wire to the front of the engine. and both of my coolant temp sensors are connected at the T-stat housing.
So did I buy a bad temp sensor? Is there anyway to check it? Or ???
thanks
bob

the temp sensor for a 97 should be installed in the thermostat housing. from there it was wired to the pcm and the pcm controlled the gauge. was the 96 originally there or did it have the sensor on the back side of the head near the firewall??

I installed a brass "tee" in the T-stat housing to fit both sensors. I extended the the gauge wire to reach the new location...

did you wrap the threads of the sensor in anything? the brass sensor that used to be installed in the rear of the head used the head as ground and if the body of the sensor isnt grounded it will be a no go.
