We're using a digital ScanGauge ('96 up OBD-II) and have momentarily seen 230F......the light never flickered. I believe 241.25F is where the "red zone" starts on the factory gauge. The ScanGauge just plugs into the ALDL port under the dash, again '96 up OBD-II. A traditional temp gauge will require tapping into a flowing engine coolant source in order to install a sending unit.
