tcase noise
Tried searching but couldn't come up with my exact problem.
Vehicle: 2001 xj automatic transmission 4x4.
Problem: sometimes difficult to get into 4hil when in 4hi it makes a whining metallic grinding noise that gets worse with increase in speed. This jeep is stock and does not get much 4wd usw and tonight`s snow is the first I have attempted to engage it. Does go into 4lo but can be tricky to get past 4hi. Any ideas where to start? Thinking service the fluid first... then what?

mine is doing the same thing, except it is hard to get into 4 low and makes noise while in 4 low...
im just gonna rebuild my case my jeep has 260k on it
i would say change ur fluid and maybe start with adjusting the shift linkage see if that helps
