Default Tail Lights

My night time tail lights stopped working on my XJ, and I wanted to get a breakdown of what each bulb in the tail light housing did, so that I can hard wire the night time lights.

Thanks for the help!

Do the instrument cluster lights work?

They stopped working, and then I hard wired them to the headlights. The tail light running light kept blowing a fuse, but now it still doesn't work even with a new fuse, that's why I just wanted to know which bulb(s) to wire to get my tail light running lights back.

Did you install a new radio recently? The fuse keeps blowing because you have a short to ground someplace in the circuit. Hard wiring to the headlamp circuit is not the correct way to fix the problem, that is just hackery and will cause more problems.

I do have an aftermarket radio, but it was installed years ago. Rather than hunting down the short to ground somewhere, I wanted to completely cut out the "shorted" wire and replace it with new wire. I just wanted to know which bulb I needed to wire.

I'm not going to tell you how to half a$$ it. Good luck.

To be perfectly honest with you. I don't think that you will get much help with a hack job because no one will want to be responsible if you have an electrical fire. I am sure that you would get more help if you want to try to fix it correctly. I wish you luck on the rewire job. I'm not trying to be an A$$ But I would really hate to hear that your Jeep caught fire.

What you want is the wrong thing to want. I understand it looks like the easiest approach at this point, but it will lead you to more grief down the road.

Keep tackling problems that way, and life will be painful. It's kind of like pushing snow with a shovel. It gets it out of the way quickly, but it builds up and becomes impossible to move. Much better to shovel it properly from the start.
