Try adjusting the latch post... you get access to bolts from under behind the bumper.

Ive never heard that approach. Are you alking about the actual part where the door latches onto could be adjusted? Im just having trouble thinking about what you mean and my jeep isnt near for me to go look at.

i have my hidden hitch there and im afraid all the bolts are more than likely rusted on. if i was able to get to it how can you adjust it? like up and down movement or front to rear adjustment?

The rubber bump stops on the sides are most likely shot. They are about waist high on either side and stop the tailgate from ratteling. Might need some new ones or a little electrical tape wrapped around them if they are split.

Its amazing what a roll of electrical tape can do. haha. taped around the rubber stops on the gate. taped all the hinges on the doors to stop that squeeking noise. and around the latches for the rear seat. Dont hear a sound now over the bumps. Much Much better! I love this site!!!

I understand what you mean when you say you taped around the rubber stops but im confused about how you taped around the hinges. Would you mind putting some pictures up of where you taped around so I can understand it?

Hello all couldn't help but evesdrop. I got a 98 Cherokee sport and I'm looking to replace the tailgate bumpstops. The factory bumpstops just fit over what looks like a 25 or bigger torx screw. All I need is the two little rubber pieces that fit over them. If anyone knows where I can find those jokers please let me know. Also I was looking at the universal bump stops from DAYSTAR . Has anyone ever tried them, and If so do they work? If you guys know anything about this topic the information would be much appreciated. Thanks

Chumperdink, I'm sure you could find some off an xj at junk yard. My tailgate rattles around like a mother... I'm gonna check out my bumpstops when I get it back.

I am not at home right now, but i could later on today. Ill try to explain a little better... Okay, so you open your drivers door. On the door jam the "U" shaped hinge that bolts to the jam if you put like a layer or two around it, it will stop any squeaking or clunking noise caused from it. At least it did for me. WHen you tape, dont tape from one side to the other, but actualy tape around the tubeular bent "U" bolt. Does that make any sense?
