Not entirely true. Tom Woods has the only "true" SYE for the 242. By true I mean, opening up the case and replacing the output shaft, like a 231 type SYE. The RE Hack n Tap is a very solid option for the cost. The hardest part is installing it properly, and it's not hard at all in difficulty...just requires a lot of patience and attention to detail.
Again, not entirely true. As mentioned above, no two Jeeps react the same to a lift. The earlier XJ's react a lot better due to the design of the transfer case (the tail cone/output shaft portion) and having more support to compensate for the change in height. The later ones (I believe everything from around 94 and up, I don't recall the year the switch was made) are a lot more prone to vibes due to a different design. The 97+'s are particularly vulnerable to vibes
FYI, I ran 3" with a 1" tcase drop for a while and still had some minor vibes. I decided after a year to put some shims on it to see if that would cure it, and it actually made it worse (went from vibes to wobbling). Went with a new lift and the Hack n Tap and haven't had a single issue since.

The TW 242 kit mentioned is pretty expensive and is really nothing more than a stock output shaft cut and threaded on a lathe, thus an expensive HnT. Just my

You are right about the 97 and newer XJ transfer cases having a shorter tailcone. Never thought about that amplifying the vibes after a lift but, it makes sense.
O, ok. Not really worth the extra money then, I don't do much flexing when I 4x4, mostly just mud and nice easy trails around here. Plus she isnt 4x4 hard, I can't afford to break my dd. Anybody have any suggestions for shocks? I really dislike the R.E. shocks, they just seem very overpriced, 180 for 4 of the cheapest?

I plan on going with a T-case drop and some shims and I hope that will work for now. If I really have to do a Hack and Tap I plan on finding a junk 242 at a junkyard to practice on before I do it for real. There is no way my dad would help me with this so its gona be all me thats why I rather just practice.
Regarding the shocks, my dad has blistein 5100 on his Ram 2500 and they haven't been all that great. I am deffinately doing more shock research but I just have a problem dropping 180 for the R.E. shocks right now. I was looking at the full traction 3.5 shocks, any word on those?

Get yourself a set of Heckelthorns from Rough Country. Decent shocks for the best price you will find.
