Default SYE installed but TC doesn't take enough oil

Just installed a SYE kit (which was really a LOT easier than directions let on and WAY better than a hack and tap) but when I filled with oil it only took about a qt and a half, not the 2+ its supposed to take. Any ideas on why?

By oil do you mean Dex/Merc III? Cause that's what's supposed to be in you Tcase.

Yes I used tranny fluid although I'm not sure that's the ticket for a gearbox but that's what they say.
As for pulling the TC, I did not pull it. Directions said you should and that it would be a lot easier if you pull it. I can't disagree any more strongly. It was a piece a cake to do it in the Jeep. Took about 3.5 hours and that was going slow and easy. The parts are a lot lighter than the whole case too boot. I really think it would take more time pulling it and re installing it than it would to do the job.

HUH what SYE you buy? if i can do it on the jeep then i might go ahead and buy this bad boy.... when doing it this way any thing that could drop and you would be screwed?

edit: to answer the question if it is showing full then leave it be dont wanna blow any seals. shift the transfer around and then re check and top off.
