Ok, it's finally time to build my cherokee itll either be a 5.5 or 6.5 lift but i'm running into a road block when it comes to getting the SYE or just getting the Hack and Tap style. Yeah people say its weaker and what not but is there any real draw backs? I'm talking mechanical and technical. not just because its cheaper and doesnt have RE or some other brand on it.

depends on skill level, tools and budget! an SYE is awesome and bullet proof if you have the budget, a hack n tap is easy and can be done in an hour or two.
a tip on the hack n tap. chock your tires when the rear drive shaft is removed put your tranny in 1st gear and make sure it is 2wd and while the rear output is spinning cut it. This ensures you have a smooth strait cut that is perfectly square.

Just so you know my hack and tap is from Rubicon Express. Been running it for 5-6 years. If it was a Wrangler I would have used a true SYE but I didn't need the extra length and didn't have the coin.
