Default Switch a -92 steering column to a -94 steering column

Hello! I live in Sweden/Gothenburg and recently purchased a 1992 Jeep Cherokee XJ Limited. I was planning to fix it up with a lift kit and go over the engine etc. Since I work in the navy I travel a lot and I let it sit on the parking lot until I had time to work on it. Some week ago while I was on my job some punk broke into it and tried to steal it. While doing so he or she destroyed the ignition key cylinder and also damaged the stering column a bit. Since it's not a lot of spare parts lying around here in Sweden for those jeeps I was lucky to find a 1994 steering column. My question to you guys is if I will run into any problem if I replace a 92 column with a 94. Also would it be easier to just change the ignition key cylinder? The problem is that the hole in the plastic is damaged from the theif trying to dig it out so I guess it wouldn't turn smoothly? Thankful for all helping comments on the matter. This is my first post here and since I'm a newly cherokee owner I guess it will be more..

The damaged key cylinder holder.

You can check the parts manuals for 94 and 92 and see if the part numbers are the same. That's what I would do.

I believe the 94 column should be compatible with a 92, but that's just a guess.

All I know is from the parts diagrams so I can't be sure that it'd work however...

From the parts diagrams, numbers do not match but that could simply be down to the smallest of changes which make no difference to fitment.

The difference between different part numbers for the same years are the options of:
Manual - Auto
With tilt - Without tilt
With intermittent wipers - Without intermittent wipers

From the picture, the top plastic that is damaged on yours looks the same as the one for sale, as it also looks the same as my 93 donor.

If the OP has an auto, the replacement column would have to be an auto (imo), as there is an ignition release cable that interacts with the selector
..may be possible to swap those bits over

Even though I dislike steering column work, it seems pretty easy to disconnect one, to check on whether they are the same

I obtained a couple in case my ignition goes crook, a common problem in older XJ

Security Torx bits are required to remove the ignition

Use the FSM, this forum, and dont let the column spin about too much, as it will wreck the clock spring
