You're asking for trouble if you need to maneuver quickly at speed. Not to mention if you get in an accident and they find you don't have one, it's pretty much automatically your fault. Might as well chop out the cat too at that point IMO.
You can take the rear off and throw it away, but NEVER take the front off ON road! If the front rides too rough with the sway on on an XJ for someone,I'd suggest maybe get something with IFS, and stay on pavement.
If ya want a REALLY cushy ride, try driving a few miles without shocks. Very interesting.
In all seriouslness leav the front ON unless you're off road.
Were ya romping on it?
Sounds like either your tires were too big for your lift, wrong offset with your tires too far in), or it wasn't bump stopped bumpstop correctly.

Front sway bar gone. Scrap metal. Drive it like a jeep. I have driven 80 mph across south Dakota and Wyoming with out a problem. About 20k without and I would let my mother drive it. Xjs have the perfect wheelbase for it. Would not catch me doing that in a TJ. I have been driving and wrenching on xjs for 10 years. I know the difference between safety and not. Who cares about a cat converter man really. All my jeeps have them cuz it ain't worth the time to mess with it. To the OPer, your question has been answered.

Sway bar not directly related to the damage as occurred in your car. I agree with Solomon7. But when this happened with your rear end XJ with leaf spring, means you need an anti-wrap axle. The main function of sway bar is to maintain stability especially when the car slid around the corner.

Yesss..., u right. After lifted up my XJ, I'd never use a sway bar anymore...

Also me and the poster above me could probably agree that we are not recommending it just providing information about it and that it is possible and by no means believe removing a swaybar a unsafe act for an experienced driver. If you are 16 without much driving experience, leave your vehicle the way Jeep built it.

Do you hear banjos?
From a parent's perspective.... please, leave it on for on road use!! Get discos, and remove the rear, but at 16, you still have a ton to learn about driving. I mean no offense what so ever, and everyone on this board, regardless of their age had to learn it. I run without one, but have been driving for 20+ years, and understand that it is a Jeep, not a sports car!! If people don't like my speed, they go around, it's a pretty simple system!! LOL!!

quick discos are easy to install and use for off roading no reason to pull the sway bar off if you drive on the street. Yes I don't run any sway bars but I've driven mine less then 5000 miles in the 3 years I've owned it.
Moral of the story get a set of discos for the trail and leave the front bar on. The rear sway bar is a joke and offers little to no anti sway with the number of bends in it.

BS, it depends on how stiff your springs are. My 4.5" RC with full leaf packs handles great on the road without sway bars. Really can't even notice a difference with the links hooked up. I have barely any lean at all. now my buddy with a 3".. his springs are alot softer and it leans like crazy without the swaybars hooked up.

If you take it off your vehicle will just sway on the the road, that is what it prevents. but it is really vehicle/set up depentant on how bad the sway is, i have a 68 camaro without one and if your not focusing on the road you will run off it lol. but my jeep xj you really dont have to think about it.
