i have a c8.25 with 27 spline axles. can i just swap out to a 29 spline carrier and axles or would i have to change the bearings and seals too?

You have to change the carrier, spider gears, and axle shafts. everything else is the same between the 27 and 29 spline.

The shaft diameter is measured at the step down near the splines, which is where they almost always break. The main length of the axle shaft is the same diameter on both versions.
