Dude superchargers are a waste of money, you can stroke your engine and get more or less the same power

he means turn your motor into a stroker.
you can do a lot of read up online in how to turn your 4.0L into a stroker.
for around the same price, its practically a rebuild but i heard its worth it.

My buddy has the Avenger supercharger in his Wrangler and when its running right, it will snap you back in your seat.

That is of course when its running right which is only 10% of the time. The other 90% its running rich, hesitating, stalling, etc.... There is no one around here that knows how to work on them.

He did get a killer deal on it. Supercharger, 2002 Engine, tranny, t-case, short shifter, header, K&N FIPK 2, etc..... with 2000 miles on everything (PO went with a small block swap in his wrangler) for $3000. The Supercharger alone is that much.

So, if Mr. Rimmer worked on your Jeep would you be getting a "Rim" job?

Superchargers and turbo chargers IMHO are all a waste of money on offroad vehicles..

Depends. If I were to go with forced induction for off-road use, I'd go with a blower - they're easier on engine oil (if they use it at all - many have their own oil supply for internal lubrication,) and there's no "turbo lag," since it's directly driven by the crankshaft.

A properly-sized blower can make for excellent torque gains, but at the expense (somewhat) of fuel economy - ramming more air in means more fuel is needed...

However, unless you're into huge pulls, you're better off with a stroker. Assuming you've got the 242ci/4.0L, you can get the crankshaft and connecting rods from a 258ci/4.2L engine and drop those in - getting you something like an extra 30-40ci displacement, a mild boost in compression (which tends to increase torque output and combustion efficiency) and it's invisible to Smog 'techs' (assuming you're dealing with a Smog-controlled area. Like CA...) Strokers pass CA smog tests all the time out here. And, stroking an engine makes for a combination that is both less expensive and easier to tune - you may need to upsize the injectors slightly (find 21-24#/hour units instead of the OEM 19#/hour,) but that's about it - the engine control system should automatically correct once it sees it can delivery enough fuel. The guys I know that have built them didn't need to reprogramme anything, and you often have to remap fuel delivery and trim with forced induction...

Also see this site for vast amounts of stroker info. When my little 4.0 finally craps the bed I'll be heavily involved in my very own stroker build. It really isn't much more than a rebuild, but the guys on this site can really guide you to the correct parts to choose for your "reBUILD".

I designed that kit for Jack at Avenger 7 or 8 years ago. It can be set to run right. Rick Rimmer
