I need some suggestions about 27 spline alloy axles vs changing carrier and axles. Can I get by with 27 spline axles if they are alloy in my D30?

31's? I think the dana 30 will be just fine with that size. I never modded a dana 30 to run 31's or 33's and they handled em fine.

What my plan is to re-gear from stock 3.55 to 4.10s I have a chance to get gears and carrier plus a spare set of axles but they are all 27 spline stuff. Should I do that or just get the carrier? It is pretty cheap and all of this is from another Jeep but used stuff. I'm thinking I should just get the carrier and put in new gears. The advice I'm getting is from buddies here at home not to reuse used gears. Just get the carrier and to buy new gears even though these have only a few miles on them and they were never wheeled hard. Their thoughts are that you will never get them set up right again and they are already set in a wear pattern. Maybe this makes more sense now.

I would advise on buying new gears if this is a DD vehicle and not worry about the axle shafts. They can handle 31's. Besides, the shafts don't do any work until you put it in 4wd.

Thanks Mudd, That was my thinking and yes it is my SDD (sole daily driver) I needed the carrier because mine is the wrong one for 4.10s so I was trading for it and the guy told me that it was coming from a 4.10 geared D30 and wanted to let me use the R&P as well as the carrier. He said it was a low mileage gear set. But as you suggest, new gears are in order to get them set up right, backlash etc...
I will try to talk him into just trading me for the carrier and not the gears. The axles are probably OK too but I may end up getting his axles as a spare set b/c they have new 760 u joints in them. Any ideas in that regard?
Again thanks Mudd! anyone else want to chime in here please be my guest.
