Default Stupid Alignment Question

Ok so I've been reading up on this a lot, and it seems pretty simple (especially because I just replaced all these steering components so the threads should be like new) but two questions arise:

  1. Toe in should be somewhere between 1/8th and 1/16th inch. But every guide I've seen this for they were doing it with larger tires. Mine is all stock. Should it be less since they are ultimately closer to the rims?
  2. Can I measure it from the rims instead of the tires? My tires are sort of mis-matched at the moment until I can get new ones. I know that's going to throw it off a bit anyway, but I just want to make that squeeling noise go away when I turn hard corners until I can get new tires and a pro alignment.

I aim fir 1/8 at the tread for my 15's. The speck IS for the rim bead. A trick I found, spin a wheel and spray-paint a stripe on the tread, then steadying it with a block or something spin again and make a line in, or on the paint with a pen.

It's possible to transfer your mark down to the ground with a level..."problematic!, though"

I always role it forward to a stop on level ground and double check. Have fun!

Neat info Freedgr, (again). 1/8in. might be a bit much at the rotors?
