Stuck in 4wd?

Stuck in 4wd?
I have a stock 97 cherokee that feels like the from end binds up when I turn. I know the 4wd is not engaged because I needed to use it yesterday to get un stuck. Anybody know what this could b or point me in a direction to start looking?
