Default Stroked 92 XJ 4.0 into a 99 XJ?

I've got a 99 XJ Sport 4x4. It's got the 4.0 which is going to need a rebuild in the coming seasons. I found a 4.0 out of a 92 for a great price.

I'm planning on rebuilding this 92 into a 4.5 stroker and then wanting to put it in my 99 XJ. Does this comply with engine swap laws or is it exempt as I will only really be swapping the block, internals, 91-95 HO head, etc. Are there any major differences in the 92 and 99 4.0 blocks that would prevent this from being successful?

I would rebuild/stroke the 99 and forget the 92. You usually can't go backward as far as laws are conserned. The 99 head is also better than the 92.

The whole point in doing it this way is because I have to drive my Jeep to work/school every day of the week.

I'm really only going to be using the block from the 92.

I would say do it because to my knowledge the motors block wise are the same just use the intake and sensors off the 99 so you wont run into problems with that
some tell me if I am wrong here

yup you can do it since the long blocks are essentially the same, just swap all your 99 sensors, intake manifold etc over to the new motor when its done and it will drop right in.
