Strange Noise?? HELP!!!

Default Strange Noise?? HELP!!!

got a 98 XJ with roughly 115k on it. its been now three days that ive noticed this whining noise that stays constant with the motor running. i havent done anything recent like any services or gone wheeling. not much to say on the problem but would like to know if anyone here has a similar problem.. thanks..

i had a similar problem. did the engine rpm also run high? i replaced the exhaust/intake gasket and it fixed both problems.

Noises are hard to isolate and could be lots of things. The PS pump, alternator, water pump, trans fluid low, etc... Need more info if possible.

well its not the trans or PS pump. i serviced them a while back and i frequently check the fluids. as far as the WP or Alt. i wouldnt know. the WP im asuming is original because when i bought the Xj it only had one owner. and he gave me ALL the service records. but atleast i got some direction to go in. this may sound like a stupid question but id there any way to check the WP.?
