Stop me if you've heard this one before: Turned the key this morning, won't start
I'm guessing this is the most common problem with Jeep Cherokees. I've seen a million threads with a multitude of guessing, but I'll throw it out anyway since there seems to be some very astute owners on this forum:
I have a 2007 Jeep Cherokee. I got in this morning and turned the key. The dash lit up, radio turned on, but nothing turned over. No clicking sound...nothing. It doesn't appear to be a battery issue, since everything electronic turned on with the car. Also doesn't appear to be a key issue (we've already solved that once) because I'm not getting the key error message. In fact, I'm not getting any message at all about a problem. It simply isn't turning over.
There's an initial click when you turn the ignition and then nothing. It's not a constant clicking noise - just turn, click, dead...but all the electronics remain lit up.
Anyone have this problem?

if you own a jeep you learn how to jump the starter with a screwdriver!
you should check batt volts first thing, 12v+
jump small wire, ign start, to the hot wire post on starter.
my new starter clicks sometime. i need to return it but its cold!, im lazy.

I would have to agree with the dead battery. Jump it and see if it starts. Or take it into one of the part stores and have it tested. Are you in a colder climate? It was -10 with the wind chill when I woke up and jeep was a little slow.

Nujeepguy, no, no you don't learn that just from owning a jeep. I've never had to jump the starter terminals on any of my jeeps, ever. You have a faulty reman starter, tough. Please stop posting the same exact thing every time someone has a no-crank condition.
Crob, what have you tested thus far? You may have some corrosion on the battery cables. Most likely the battery is shot and the colder weather just amplified the fact it's done. But of course, do some testing first and see if it's something simple. I'm not sure where you're located but most part store franchises will test your battery for free.

i had old starter require jumping to start. it works in an emergency like -5 temp on a dark night on a back road 40 miles from nowhere, or, in my driveway.
my new reman needed loosened up, seems ok now. but at midnight when you dont have time to post? or trouble shoot intmt wires you better know how to get home. keep a screwdriver handy.
and to have a zone test your batt,,you gotta get there!! and if you jump it and starts, it aint the batt...

Thanks for all the help. You were right on with the battery. Jumped it and took it down to AutoZone where I had purchased a Duralast Gold battery about two years ago. Battery had already tanked. Thankfully the gold model had a three year full replacement.
Left AutoZone with a brand new battery for nothing.
Can't tell you how thankful I was that it wasn't another ignition/key issue. That was the worst.
Anyway, thanks for the help!
