Default “Stock” XJ tilt Sunroof.

So I have a 90 2 dr XJ with a “factory” manual sunroof that tilts up. It was working great until the latch broke. It doesn’t have any markings that indicate manufacturer. Any ideas where I can get a new latch? Thanks ahead of time. Here are a few pics of how I have it rigged to keep the water out 😬😬

Ghetto rigged. Wife doesn’t like water dripping on her haha

The inside. Yes I know I need to do the headliner

I don't recalled my 1988 Jeep Cherokee having that latch as the closure to the moonroof. Try searching your local junk yards and salvage yards for similar model/year.

It looks like the part number would be 83501054 or 83501055 or both. I've been pretty amazed by how much desire that the people of the People's Republic of China desire to produce old Jeep parts and sell them on Amazon. Try searching that via a bunch of different keys words.

Maybe a new piece of glass would come with new hardware. Maybe you could fix the latch or find/make a replacement. Could a closer image of the latch show how it is broken?

By the way, I'd just pull the headliner all together. To me, the painted metal hood looks fine and doesn't rain **** on me, doesn't need glue, and doesn't need new fabric every decade or two.

Thank you for the info! I’ve kept my eye open for one so I can scavenge parts, no luck so far tho. I’ll keep searching. I don’t have any close ups as the Jeep is at my parents home and I haven’t been there in a couple weeks. I’ll try to get some pretty soon here and post them.

It might be a narrow range of years that Jeep used that same closure. I really think that my 88 used a latch just like the side windows. You should check that link thru a few different years so that you have an idea of what vehicles at a salvage yard/junk yard actually have what you want.

You may also scour the junkyards for old aftermarket sunroof latches that one look like the one I had in an old chevy van years ago.

Here are a few up close photos of the latch. It’s broken where it holds onto the glass side of the latch. I’ll keep looking for parts at the junkyard, and online.

I may be confused.
Can you replace the pin with a longer pin to go thru both sides? It appears that one side isn't held by the pin. Is that the problem?

The pin isn’t the problem, the pin goes through the center of the latch which is fine. The latch has broken at the place it attaches to the glass. There are two little ears with holes that are broken that you can see in the second to last photo I believe.

I have been following this out of boredom. I don't have sunroof and have nothing to contribute.
But has anybody done a Google search?
From the pictures I can't visualize what I am looking at.
And I have not seen a pop up sunroof up close and personal in over 30 years.
But this was the first thing I found with a Google search in about 30 seconds.
Will it work? Doubt it.

Yes, I’ve searched on google quite a bit. Found a couple of latches like this, but I’ve been too lazy to contact the sellers about the dimensions. Figured someone on here would have been through this and would have a resource handy, that’s why I posted about it.

I had thought that those ears were secured by the pin. Do you think that epoxy or other adhesive might work for you?
