Default Stock hight tire size?

So I just bought my first xj and it is a bone stock 85 with the 2.8. I am just going to use it at my hunting lease to drive around and work /hunt in we have about 2,000 acres we hunt and always used samurai's and they work fantastic, however I have three sons that are ready to come with me so I needed more room.

Okay all that to ask what size tire should/can I fit at stock hight, I have done quite a bit of searching on here and i can't find a clear answer on whether or not 31's will fit, or I am seeing a lot of wrangler take offs at the 255/75/17 range and wasn't sure if they would fit, bolt patter not tire size.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Chances are, that with the age of your truck the stock springs are sagging a lot.
In most cases, people who want a little taller tire than stock, go with a 235-75 R15.
A 30x9.5x15 may work with minor rubbing, again, considering sag.
31x10.5x15 will probably rub significantly. Where they will rub depends on the backspacing of your wheels.
I couldn't tell from your post whether you were asking about the JK takeoffs fitting because of tire size or lug pattern. You have 5x4.5, the JK are, I believe, 5x5. You would need adaptors to use these.

When I first bought my xj, I had 30x9.5x15's with a rub when I turned hard left, I replaced all 4 and no more rub, different tread I guess

Thanks guys, I had planned on getting the 235's but was finding quite a few of the 31 and jk take off used
Looks like I'll stick with the 235

I'm running 235/75-15s and the rear will rub (lightly) if I'm heavily loaded. My suspension is stock but I've got about 1.5" of sag at the rear until my new leafs (leaves?) arrive.
