Thanks. It gets the job done.

Yea,it's 3.5". Had 5.5" on my old '78 Power Wagon. Always been a popular mod around here cause it's so plentiful. Found these in an old shed not far from the house. I was kinda concerned about passing our yearly inspection but no problem. Still legal.

The fact that they do rub may be helpful info to the OP.

I'm just hoping they'll hold up better than the OEM ones.

If that's genuine oilfield down hole tubular, they should be there forever.

Only had my 14 year old xj 2 weeks but the previous owner fitted 255/65r16s on stock suspension. Anything over 30mph on tarmac feels like it's riding on space hoppers. Getting 225s fitted tomorrow.

Not sure what u r saying.......those 255's are a 29" tall tire so there shouldn't be any rubbing issues or ride issues if they r properly balanced/inflated and in overall good condition. Don't under stand how size effects ride, especially when the 2 sizes r about the same. What's a space hopper? R u possibly on the other side of the pond?

If those tires were on stock wheels (stock back spacing) there may be some slight issues. That tire/wheel combo does look good.

No issues now but rear clearance will be better once I replace sagging rear springs.

It's not just about the height though - a 255 tyre is nearly 50% wider than the rim that it's sitting on. That has to have an impact on ride and cornering, especially at any kind of speed.
As you guessed I'm in the UK and maybe there is a cultural difference at work here. European and Asian drivers tend to put more emphasis on handling and feedback from the wheels than Americans. Our roads aren't as wide and straight as yours.
Surely you lot had space hoppers over there in the seventies. Am I the only 40 something here?
