'98 should be similar to an '01 after the header, I would think.

Is the hanger on the rear the only way to support the muffler? I'm trying to figure out how to set up my new off road muffler.

Gotta support the weight of the muff some how and at the rear is probably best. We just used the stock hanger and rubber isolator attached to a universal exhaust hanger and pipe clamp from the auto parts store.

Thanks for the advice and pics. I might be able to copy that hanger set up tomorrow.

Stock exhaust also uses a mount at the cross member.

Terrific pictures djb! The size notations there are important as well. My PO had cut off the cat and install some homegrown nascar system that made me want to kill someone before I even got it home. I installed a inexpensive universal high flow cat and score an almost new Dynamax muffler and tailpipe from the JY. Make sure you install something with the O2 bung in the correct places or you most likely will run into issues. Good Luck.
