Hey everyone, okay so my dana 30 has seen better days, long story short is im looking for one that has the 4.10 gears stock (out of an XJ), anyone know where i might find one of these? It needs to be from a 96-99 model to ensure it is a high pinion, reverse cut, non-disconnect, and 297x u-joints. So out of those years, where might I find the 4.10 gears? Is it like 4 cyl autos? or 4 cyl autos and manuals? Thanks everyone! (also, will the hub bearings, brakes, or yoke be any different from my 99s??)

The 4 banger had that ratio and I can't tell you about the unit bearings. You can compare part numbers at your favorite parts store to see if the donor year and your current year have the same part numbers. HTH.
BTW my 90 is a high pinion reverse cut so those are not the only years with those specs.

2000-2001 had LP 30
92ish+ had non-disconnect
96ish+ had 297x u-joints
... im saying those years because then you get HP, RC, 297s, and Non-disco. yes, i could get a 1990, and it may be an HP30 but it wouldnt have 297X's or non-disco....

Mine is non-disco because it is a 242 transfercase and I have 260x u joints which are pretty strong. The D30 of your dreams is a little less common than most but still pretty plentiful. Take one like mine and regear truss it and change to alloy shafts and you will have as bulletproof an axle as a D30 gets.

IIRC, the 2.5 liter had 4.10s in both manual and standard. BTW, TJ four bangers have the same 4.10 ratio, but I think they have the low pinion design, if someone knows more, or finds a mistake, fell free to step on my post, as I don't know everything and never claimed to!! Later!!

Usually the 4cyl auto's will yield the 4:10 ratio, but i'v also seen many with 3:73's.
As mentioned before you can find an early D30 housing thats not disconnect.. look for the fulltime 4WD option which will indicate the NP242 transfer case.
Any 95+ or any ABS equipped XJ will have the larger 297 u-joints.

X2 on Overland XJ's comment, I've seen quite a few with 3.73s the XJ 4cyls I've seen with 3.73s were all autos but I don't know if that's the rule.
Also the older fulltimers have the older knuckle/brake set-up

Here check out this link. I'm unsure of if this applies to TJ's or not but they should be the same. I have a buddy at work with an 00 4cyl 5spd, so I can check to see if it is HP or LP. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=101249
