Steering shaft slipping?

Steering shaft slipping?
My buddy bought a 95 xj on 35's with a RC 6.5 lift. Long story short its got issues. Took it out and when turning , the steering wheel would actually turn almost one revoultion before the wheels did. frotn end is tight. Is there a common problem with maybe a shaft stripping?
