Default Steering q

So I got a new Cherokee 97 107000 miles on it. When I'm in park and I try turn the steering wheel I get resistance from it and whining. It's lifted with 33's on it. Do I need to upgrade my steering box?

You shouldn't need to upgrade quite yet - I'm on 33's and it still turns awesome. Sounds like your power steering pump is going out to me. That is, of course, assuming that it is a lot of resistance and not just a little. If you have to put a distinct amount of effort into turning, then it's probaby the pump.

yeah i do go a lot of resistance. i can only turn the steering wheel with little resistance when the jeep is in motion, but when i'm parked and try turn there is to much resistance. is the power steering system under pressure or can it easily but changed out

With the engine off it's not under pressure, it's a hydralic system ran off a belt driven pump. First of all, try the easy stuff, check the pump to make sure you have enough power steering fluid. Low fluid can describe exactly what you are seeing. The question is, though, why is it low? Refill it and keep an eye out for leaks, probably either in the pump itself or one of the lines.

Thanks once I get off work I'll take a bitter look at it and look for any leaks

Keep in mind that if you replace the pulley with the power steering pump, you will need the pulley remover to get the old one off, they should have to to loan at AutoZone, or they're only a few bucks if you have to buy one.

since i was having problems with steering i took it down to get it looked at. i have an adjustable track bar and the bushing by the upper mount is toast. i'm am unsure of what brand it it untill i get a better look at it tomarrow and see if there are any marking on it. they also i should upgrade my lower control arms since i still have stock ones on and its lifted about 5in and that the top sway bar end link is hitting my front coils. what is a good upgrade for the control arm? then i assume i should just be able to take out the old bushing and replace it a new one correct? or do i need a new bar?
