My Chrysler non-tilt airbag steering column is on it's last leg. The lock cylinder on the ignition is shot, the plastic cover on it is all cracked, and since I'm trying to convert my interior to a 97-01 XJ, I was wondering; is it possible to swap a 97-01 steering column into my 96 Cherokee?

What do I have to do to make it happen? Any Modifications?
Also, where can I find a steering column with a steering wheel besides the Junkyard? I checked ebay, craigslist, and Jcwhitney. I got nothing haha.

The wiring between the 95-96 column and the 97-01 column is different. The tilt columns in the 95-96 XJ is better than the tilt column in the later years. I would just swap in a 95-96 tilt column.

I can cut and splice connectors, that's not a big deal. Im just asking because there is a Black tilt column with steering wheel and key for $50 on craigslist. It would be cheaper to buy it than it would be to get one from a junk yard which is pretty awesome. What are the issues with the 97+ steering wheel tilts?

The way it tilts. The newer column tilts by moving the whole column up like an old import car with tilt wheel. The older column pivots closer to the steering wheel and fits better in the dash.
