Unhappy Steering box brace?

I have an 89 XJ with a problem in the steering department.
A few weeks ago I went to back up my Jeep to drive it and I realized that I could only turn left instead of right. It will not budge right when turning it with the steering wheel but has no problem when jacking it up in the front and manually turning the wheel. Already replaced the power steering pump but on further inspection, the steering gear box was moving every time one would turn the wheel either left or right. Some have told me it the steering box brace that has gone out but Im still not sure.
Does anyone have any ideas?

gear box problem. the brace is only there to reinforce the mounting of the gear box. it has no function in the steering. if you jack it up, can you turn the steering wheel both ways?

Yeah when I jack up the front I can turn the wheel to the right and left all the way by pushing on the tires. But the steering box still manages to move. But if I jack it up and try to turn it right with the steering wheel... it still wont budge.

You are talking about a steering stabilizer, not a steering box brace.

Does that explain the reason as to why my steering gear box moves around when i turn the wheel?

No, something is wrong. Get under there and see exactly what is broken. Your SB should not move against the unirail. Your unirail could be cracked and flexing, or you could have sheared the bolts in you SB off. Either way, that will have to be addressed before you can add a SB brace to your rig.
