Just swapped out my cylinder head. Got it all back together, and now it won't run. It will start, but immediately stalls. it is acting like a huge misfire. I have battery and fuel , --fuel pressure release valve shoots out fuel when I press it. My first thought is a installed the pushrods wrong, so that is where I am going to look first. Does anyone have any other ideas? thanks

On my '92 I forgot to hook up the temperature sender. Caused all sorts of problems.

Double check all your sensor connections.

? how could you do the pushrods wrong? did the rockers fit normal. i dont know this engine but it looks like many.
check compression? i had no comp on one cylinder in a big v8,m it was my valve /rocker adjustment!!.

I went back and thought of everything I did step by step....wondering if this screwed something up--It said to bring #1 piston to top dead center, which I did, but I did it right before I put it back together, not before I took everything apart. Could this have cause an issue not doing this from the start?

What year is your jeep? When you write a huge backfire I wonder about crossed plug wires.

it's a 2000, so no wires to cross for a misfire.....when I try and start it, it cranks, starts to run, shakes violently, then stalls.

in the Haynes manual it says to bring the #1 piston to "top dead center". I did this, but did not do it before I took everything apart. I did it before I put it back together. Not sure if that messed something up.

In about an hour I am going to go look everything over again.

I didn't bring the motor to TDC until I had the head installed and the rockers/pushrods back in. I don't think it matters though. The FSM says nothing about putting the engine back to TDC before installing the head.

Did you label all your connections? Are you 100 percent sure that you didn't miss any connections or switched an injector connection?

I did not label the injectors. From what I can tell you can mess up 1 and 2 and 5 and 6. 3&4 are separated. I swapped 1 and 2 and it sounded like it wanted to start, but then it backfired and blew the small hoses off the intake manifold. From what I can tell everything else is connected, and connected correctly.

Yes, on a mobile and sorry I did not see the year. Since it is a 2000 nevermind about crossed wires.

Sounds timing related IMO.

ok. got it running...I'm a big dummy, I missed a spark plug with one of the boots. thanks for everyone's input. .....Now I have smoke coming from the exhaust manifold. I think it's because of the new gasket.
