Hey all!

I have a '96 postal cherokee with a bad starter. No big deal of course, but this will be the 4th in 2 years.

Could there be something else causing these to go bad, other than crappy parts?

are you sure it's the starter motor that is bad? Did you get it bench tested? What is the issue?

Sounds like you need to invest in a good one with a full replacement warranty.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I've had them tested. All were certified crap. I thought about this too. That's what's so puzzling to me.

As for replacement warranties, "lifetime warranty" generally only includes one replacement.

i don't know where you get your parts, but "lifetime warranty" means just that, and resets with the replacement item. Try NAPA - their warranty is teh bomb. Advance Auto also has good units.

I avoid autozone like the plague. If i had the choice of walking across the street to autozone or 2 miles down the road to an advance auto, I'd be walking 4 miles.

I've tried both advanced and autozone. Both had the same replacement policy on "lifetime" parts. At least, that's what the paperwork said.

Thanks for the tip on napa, I have one right down the street from me and will try them next.

The problem this time, was that the starter harness wires were frayed.

Re-soldered the wire and I'm good to go!
