Default starter bolt stripped

looking at a jeep...its a 98 with 4.0 etc....

the guy wants 800 dollars for it

needs the following

new gas tank straps (he has already)
new fuel line at the tank (broke or brittle)
back hatch glass is broke
windows work only from drivers door (paper clip fix)

number 1 reason why im nervous...starter bolt is stripped...needs to be drilled and tapped

anybody do this...is this easy to do....the other stuff is not that big of deal...but the starter scares me....if i cant get it straight on..im screwed

jeep has 180k on it

thoughts?

A small pipe wrench takes out most stripped bolts, if you can get it on there.. If not, they make a tool to take out stripped bolts. I forget what it's called.

Shouldnt be difficult to fix. Heli coil.

Which bolt is stripped out.

Worst case scenario just pull the transmission, fix it and slap it back in.

I'd be more concerned with what ELSE is wrong with considering how well the PO took care of it.

Remove the starter & if the bolt is NOT broken off inside the block, weld a nut to it.Then remove the bolt.I did this on a waterpump bolt & it worked.

180K is barely broke in.Mine has 265K & runs like a champ & I'm not easy on it.3 trouble free years & 25K miles later.the only thing I had to do to it was waterpump, battery & alt.

Lift & tires optional.

BUY IT.
